Religious Education for Children and Youth
Welcome!
Please know you are welcome at UUI as your authentic self. We want families to feel they can show up as real and not ideal! We're continually creating our program with you in mind.
We know it's sometimes hard to get out the door on Sunday mornings! We have breakfast and granola bars (gluten-free options are available) on the Religious Exploration shelf in the Social Hall in the mailbox labeled “hangry”! Just stop by and grab what you need!
Stay up to date on our programming by signing up for the RE Newsletter.
About Our Program
At UUI we offer a religious education program that encourages children and youth to grow into the unique individuals they are. Registration is free, but please do fill out our form after you’ve visited a few times, so we have the information we need to best serve UUI’s young people.
Our program is anti-bias, anti-racist, and multicultural. It is designed to inspire a life-long search for truth, and to nurture a sense of responsibility for others and for the Earth. We want to equip each child with resources that will allow them to face the challenges of life with compassion and integrity and feel they are part of something larger than themselves.
What to Expect on Sunday
Families start off in the Service together at 11am and then children and youth from preschool through twelfth grade (or homeschool/unschool equivalent), join their Religious Exploration Groups in the Social Hall after the Words for All Ages portion of the Service. They will transition to the RE Building (a red brick building behind the sanctuary) from there.
The nursery is open from 10:45am - 12:30 pm on the lower level of the RE Building for infants through preschoolers 3 years old. Families are also very welcome to keep their little ones in the service with them if that's what works best for them!
Chestfeeding and breastfeeding parents are, of course, welcome in the sanctuary!
Other Programming
Watch for additional details about our programs in the weekly family newsletter or check out this year’s brochures at the RE shelf in the Social Hall.
We are often asked about the Our Whole Lives (OWL) program! OWL is inclusive, non-shaming, science and public-health informed sexual health and wellness education. This year, we have a 7th-9th cohort in progress (registration closed), and in the second semester of the year we’ll be offering K-1 OWL, as well as our very first Adult level class! Watch this space and follow our publications for registration details.
We host alternating game and movie nights on the second Friday of the month. We offer a children’s and youth lending library, and a game library, as well! All registered children and youth are invited to stop by the Religious Exploration shelf in the Social Hall when they arrive on Sundays to check their mailbox. They’ve got mail!
